A small cut-out tribal sun emits wavy spike-like rays in an alternating long-short pattern. At its center is a cabochon of iridescent lab opal. The sun is framed in a matching round border that connects the tips of the longer rays and gives the ring the look of a compass. Subtle oxidation selectively darkens the detailing with an antique-like finish.
Lab opals are man-made opals that have the same chemical composition, internal structure, physical properties, and appearance as natural opals. Many synthetic opals look so much like natural opal that trained gemologists can have difficulty separating them from natural opal.
