A bright, golden yellow flower that always turns to face the sun, the sunflower has many positive associations. It means:
-
Long life - because it can bloom for months on end, even in the hottest weather
-
Seeking positivity - because it is always turning to face the light of the sun
-
Friendship - because of its yellow color
-
Nourishing the people around you - because the sunflower always produces an abundance of edible seeds
-
Adoration and loyalty - the Greek myth of Apollo and Clytie explains why the sunflower always faces the sun.
Clytie, a water nymph, was in love with Apollo, the god of the sun. At first he loved her back but then he fell in love with Leucothoe, a princess.
In her jealousy, Clytie told Leucothoe's father about the relationship, who then ordered his daughter to be buried alive.
Clytie had hoped to regain Apollo's affections by removing Leucothoe, but this only hardened his heart against her. Clytie then stripped herself naked and, without food or drink, sat on a rock and stared at the sun as it crossed the sky.
After nine days, she transformed into a flower that always followed the sun.
This lovely pendant features a sunflower, wide open in full bloom. Each of its petals has a slightly different shape and curvature, just like a real sunflower.
The center of the flower has a dotted texture, suggesting that it is ripe with seeds. The petals have a gentle rounded shape that creates a bright circle of light when viewed from the front.
