This handsome cut-out necklace recalls the ancient Celts' worship of nature, with an owl and a crescent moon, both done in the style of Celtic-inspired knots.
The crescent moon also features a pentacle at its center bordered above and below by two endless interwoven knots which gracefully taper off as they approach the horns of the crescent.
The Celtic influence in the owl's design is playful and more subtle. A triquetra – or three-cornered – knot is almost hidden just above the owl's flared eyebrows. And the pattern of interwoven bands that depict the breast feathers are almost as inconspicuous.
The pendant is polished sterling silver with an antique effect that highlights the details and all the ins and outs of the woven knots.
In the realm of spirit animals, the nocturnal owl symbolizes wisdom and magic and is associated with the night. According to Greek myth, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, always sat with an owl on her blind side, so that she could see the whole truth. Many other cultures, from the Vikings to native Americans, have also celebrated the mysterious bird of the night, believing in its wisdom and magic.
