This dramatic pendant is in the shape of a wolf's claw, the upper end of which looks to have been 'carved' into an impressive three-dimensional sculpture of a howling wolf's head tilted back and angled upward to project his voice.
The head is done in realistic detail showing the wolf's open mouth complete with fangs, his eyes, nostrils, and mane. As the carving approaches the lower end, the detailing becomes less realistic and more fanciful with decorative ornaments. This is all enhanced with a dark oxidizing effect. In striking contrast, the sharp lower end is done in a smooth polished finish, that emphasizes its sharpness.
Made of solid sterling silver, and larger than many other pendants, this claw pendant is substantial with a heftier weight than usual.
Wolves are friendly, social creatures and they hunt in packs; if they get separated from each other during the hunt they communicate their locations to the other wolves by howling. When conditions are right, the howls can travel up to 10 miles. Wolves howl for other reasons too, but contrary to folklore and hearsay, wolves don't howl at the moon.
