This small round pendant presents a flat map of the world. The land masses are depicted in plain polished silver and are set off by the textured and oxidized finish of the body of water between them. The left side of the pendant is the Western Hemisphere: the North and South American continents. On the right is the Eastern Hemisphere: Europe and Africa. Between them is the Atlantic Ocean, where the Prime Meridien was drawn to distinguish between the two hemispheres. (The Atlantic has an interesting textured pattern radiates outward from the center of the pendant.)
Representations of the World such as this are often used as symbols of peace and tolerance, as in One World, or of ecology or Gaia, which is the Greek word for the feminine personification of the planet - Mother Earth.
