This cut-out pendant has a striking V-shape almost like an insignia, thanks to the two winged dragons perched to either side of the pentacle like gargoyles. Their ribbed wings flare out at the top and their long snake-like tails intertwine and join in a point at the bottom. Key details are accentuated with an antique effect.

Dragons have very different meanings in the East and the West. In Europe and the rest of the Western world for example, dragons have always been monsters to be vanquished. In legends and fairy tales the dragon always appear as an evil and ferocious creature, usually hoarding a great treasure or holding a maiden hostage until some valiant, lionhearted hero rises to the occasion and slays him, as in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon.

But in the East, dragons are seen much more differently, as symbols of luck and good omens, to be loved and worshiped. Since ancient times, Easterners have known dragons to be friendly, gentle and wise. Ancient Chinese texts for example established the dragon as a water animal, a bringer of life-giving water and bountiful harvests. From there, the dragon's reputation grew to become a symbol of prosperity, longevity, fertility and benevolence. The dragon also came to be honored as one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. Someone born in the Year of the Dragon inherits many of its admirable characteristics: Lucky, honorable, successful and powerful.
