In the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism, the lotus flower has historically symbolized purity and beauty.
One reason for this is because the flower, in its cyclical transformations, is seen to repeatedly emerge from muddy waters looking clean and pristine.
This necklace seems to be inspired by that re-emergence. It's not the stylized geometrically-perfect rendition of the flower as it is so often portrayed, but a more naturalistic and freer form.
Also the it's been given a darkened background that suggests the murky waters from which it emerges. The contrast of the polished sterling silver lotus against the dark background emphasizes its purity.
