This cut-out Eye of Horus pendant has several decorative embellishments that give it real character and depth. Most dramatic is the round iris and pupil which are punctuated with a slightly concave fill of deep dark, reflective black enamel and then subtly outlined with gold-plating.

Then, the curve of the 'eyebrow' is reinforced with a wide band of inscribed double arrows and a smaller band of rectangles just below it. Both are emphasized with a darkened antique effect. The straight line of the base is also strengthened with a series of deeply recessed squares treated with the same antique effect.

The Eye of Horus is used to invoke the protection of both Horus and Ra. It also represents power and good health.

Horus was the sky god and one of the most powerful deities of ancient Egypt. He was worshiped for three thousand years and is often seen in Egyptian artwork depicted as either a falcon or as a man with a falcon's head.

As the sky god, he embodied both the sun and moon; the sun was his right eye and the moon his left. The daily movements of the sun and moon across the sky was attributed to Horus' flying from horizon to horizon.

The Eye of Horus symbol refers to his right eye and so represents the sun and, by association, the Egyptian sun god Ra. The symbol is decorated with the markings around a falcon's eye.
