Horus was the sky god and one of the most powerful deities of ancient Egypt. He was worshiped for three thousand years and is often seen in Egyptian artwork depicted as either a falcon or as a man with a falcon's head.

As the sky god, he embodied both the sun and moon; the sun was his right eye and the moon his left. The daily movements of the sun and moon across the sky was attributed to Horus' flying from horizon to horizon.

The Eye of Horus symbol refers to his right eye and so represents the sun and, by association, the Egyptian sun god Ra. The symbol is decorated with the markings around a falcon's eye.

The Eye of Horus is used to invoke the protection of both Horus and Ra. It also symbolizes power and good health.

The single line design of the Eye of Horus lends itself well to the cut-out technique used in this pendant, and the detailing is also very good, especially on the feathers Nekhbet's wings which frame the Eye on the left, on the rhythmic pattern of vertical lines on the base, and the Uraeus cobra on the right. The Eye itself is also emphasized with a double raised edge and an oxidized darkening effect between.

Nekhbet was the Egyptian vulture goddess and protector of Egypt and the pharoahs. The Uraeus cobra was a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity and divine authority in ancient Egypt.
