Unicorns have been a part of many cultures since antiquity: Ancient Greece, European folklore, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and even, according to some translations, the Bible.
In various places at various times it has been a symbol of purity, grace and of faithful marriage, able to be captured only by a virgin. Unicorns have appeared on many coats or arms, tapestries, in statuary and other artwork and in movies, fairy tales and literature. Even today the word 'unicorn' has come to be a slang term meaning a desirable but unattainable person, usually female.
In the tradition usually reserved for the noble horse, this unicorn is presented in graceful profile which shows off its mane of swirling curls and of course its spiraled horn. A small heart is seamlessly woven into the curls for a touch of warmth.
