This necklace is composed of strong symbols with layers of meaning. At its center is a pentagram, or five-pointed star, which is said to have powers that are derived from its various associations with the number 5 as a natural, sacred number, such as the five senses, five fingers, or the five arms of a starfish.
Pentagrams are endless in that they can be drawn without lifting pen off paper and this particular pentagram also has an overlapping quality, like a Celtic knot, with no beginning and no end – two reasons why it is a symbol of infinity.
When there is a circle around the pentagram, it is often called a 'pentacle'. The surrounding circle is not only a symbol of Earth, it is also a symbol of infinity, and in addition represents the cyclical nature of life and harmony. The circle is also said to protect the pentagram and all its powers.
This pentacle is aligned above a slightly rotated crescent or sickle moon, which itself is a portion of another, larger circle – the moon, which traditionally is a female goddess. The crescent shape is also the alchemical symbol for silver, from which the necklace is made.
A simple polished finish with no detailing helps enhance the strength of the symbolism.
