The centerpiece of this necklace is a pentagram, or five-point star, which is said to have powers that emanate from its various associations with the number 5 as a sacred, natural number. The number 5 can be found throughout nature - think of five fingers, the five arms of a starfish, or the five-pointed star inside an apple when you cut it horizontally.
When a pentagram is enclosed by a circle as it is here it is usually regarded as a 'pentacle'. The circle is not only a many-layered symbol of Earth, it is another symbol of infinity, and also represents the cyclic nature of life and harmony. The circle serves to protect the pentagram and all its powers.
At the center of the pentagram is a spiral that is small in size but full of meaning. The spiral has Celtic origins and is often interpreted both as the spiritual search from the outer material world to the inner soul as well as the outward expansion of the universe from a central core.
This pentacle is aligned above an upturned crescent moon, which itself is a portion of another, larger circle – the moon.
Antique accents bring out the detailing and give the pendant a more dramatic look.
