A raised Star of David is accented with a small dome-shaped lab-created opal at its center and set against a textured background that is stippled and darkened. A scroll-shaped pendant with curled corners and wavy edges frames the star and helps give it an Old World iconic feel.

Nowadays, the Star of David (Magen David is the Hebrew name) is almost synonymous with Judaism, but in ancient times it was really just a simple geometric figure made up of two triangles, one pointing up, one down, with no associations with any religion, country, etc. Originally it was merely a decoration – sometimes used in Christian churches – and sometimes a symbol of magic. It wasn't until the 1800's in the Jewish community of Prague, that the six-pointed star came into use as the Jewish symbol.

Today, many people wear the Star of David as protection against evil, in much the same way that King David wore the star on his shield in the ancient United Kingdom of Israel.

In occult circles, the hexagram's meaning is closely tied to how it is composed of two triangles, one pointing upwards and one pointing downwards. It is a symbol of the union of opposites, such as male and female, physical and spiritual, and the principle of "as above, so below".
