Most of us are so busy attending to the necessities of daily life that many wondrous things in nature have to go unnoticed. Still, falling in love with animals you've never even seen in real life isn't such a crazy idea once you get to know enough about them to appreciate them.
Take the sea turtle for example. Sea turtles have been around for over 100 million years, since the time of the dinosaurs. Some species can stay underwater for as long as 5 minutes when feeding because they're able to regulate their heartbeat to as slow as one beat every nine minutes in order to conserve oxygen.
Most species migrate very long distances between their feeding grounds and their nesting places, as much as 1400 miles. And, as you can see in this necklace, their shells and limbs are streamlined for efficient diving and swimming, which also gives them that slightly awkward and cute look.
Still, there's a sad side to the sea turtle, because nearly all of the seven species of sea turtles that still exist today are endangered, but there are good organizations like the WWF and Defenders of Wildlife that are working to bring them back.
