This large handsome pendant is richly decorated with many ancient Egyptian symbols. The Ankh's 'handle' and crossbar are rendered as tiered and feathered wings in reference to the goddess Isis who who transformed herself into a bird to search for the scattered remains of her husband, so that she might resurrect him.
The vertical arm of the Ankh is almost like a totem pole of stacked symbols, with a scarab at top, an Eye of Horus flanked on either side by a bird hieroglyph, below a pair of cartouches, and the goddess Isis also depicted as a hieroglyph, in profile, kneeling and with wings.
Oxidation accentuates all the details by creating a dramatic dark-to-light contrast, which also gives the pendant an appropriately aged character.
The opposite side of the pendant has an overall hammered texture.
