Pale green diopside crystals such as these are valued for their excellent clarity. Their light lime, pastel color comes from iron impurities that occur during a high-temperature process that involves magnesium, calcium, and silicon.

Though it was only first discovered around 1800, the diopside species is billions of years old - as old as the formation of our solar system itself!
