Thoughtful and Tiny Details: I carved this little broom to give a wavy texture to the brush and a twisting texture to the broom handle. Bound with a "braided" rope, the bristles have delicate waves that add a subtle liveliness to the design. I also made the front of the moon smooth and shiny to serve as a contrast to the details of the broom.
Flight and Freedom: The witch's broomstick conjures up images of witches flying through the night sky. It symbolizes freedom, escapism, and transcending earthly limitations. It also represents liberation from societal norms.

The traditional witch's broom was made from an ash handle with the twigs from a birch tree tied to the end with thin pieces of willow wood. The broom is a symbol of the union of masculine energies (the phallic handle) and feminine energies (the birch used for the bristles is thought of as having a feminine energy) and is often used as a tool for cleansing and purifying a space before a ritual.
