The protection of a traditional four-pointed witch's knot has been enhanced in this pendant with the addition of two symbols of infinity: the circle and the lemniscate, or figure-8. This is a graceful pendant, a delicate geometric arrangement of thin curving lines and simple shapes. But the depth – about 1/8 inch – also gives it a visual depth and a feeling of solidity that alludes to its power.
The Witch's Knot is a symbol of protection that traditionally has been made of twine or rope. It is often placed – but can also be drawn – over doorways to prevent negative energies from entering. Also referred to as a Magic Knot or Witch's Charm, it's a four-pointed knot made up of four half-circles. The four points correspond to the four cardinal points of the compass – north, east, south, and west – so that the knot protects against evil coming from any direction.
The knot itself is a symbol of infinity (which is part of its power) because it is endless; it can be drawn without lifting pencil from paper. So too are the circle and the lemniscate.
The circle is also an important Wiccan symbol. Usually using an athame, a magic circle is cast in which to perform magick, rituals or ceremonies. Within the circle is the altar and the sacred consecrated space. Outside, banished from entering, are negative energies and ill will that might interfere with the positive energies of the event.
