In the mid-1800's, French occultist Eliphas Levi developed this complex symbol to represent the totality of human existence. It combines two large concepts:
The first is the Tetragrammaton. The root word 'tetragram' is Greek and means “consisting of four letters”. In this case, it's the four-letter Hebrew word for the unspeakable name of God. It contains the four Hebrew letters YHWH, usually referred to as Yahweh.
The second is the pentagram or five-pointed star, in which each point stands for one of the five elements of god and nature: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, as well as the Human Spirit, at the topmost point.
Together the symbol is meant to embody the sum of both the Divine and the Human.
Numerous other details, such as the symbolic numbers 1, 2 and 3, the sword of St. Michael the Archangel, symbols for the the planets Mercury and Venus, and others make this a uniquely interesting and occultish-looking pendant.
The circular border that frames it all is no less detailed, as it is studded with 46 tiny CZ crystals.
